Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI)
Repetitive strain injuries (RSI) also known as Accumulative Trauma Disorders and/or Occupational or Sports overuse syndromes are all umbrella terms used to describe injuries to the musculoskeletal or nervous systems which can be caused by repetitive tasks, mechanical compression, or sustained awkward postures.
Examples of population types at risk of repetitive strain injuries include office workers who spend increasing time sitting at work in from of the computer, painters, instrumental musicians, and sports people i.e. tennis players.
Some of the most common repetitive strain injuries include:
- Tendonosis
- Tennis and golfers elbow
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Cubital tunnel syndrome
- De Quervain syndrome
- Radial tunnel syndrome
- Trigger finger or stenosing tenosynovitis
- Focal dystonia
