Prescription Insoles or Orthotics

The average person takes 7,500 steps a day, or about 115,000 miles over a lifetime! The foot absorbs between two and three times our body weight in force when we walk. Unfortunately we are not all blessed with perfect foot mechanics, in some individuals with faulty foot mechanics the forces acting on the foot are unevenly distributed with some parts having to absorb excessive stress compared to others. This uneven distribution of force can also have a negative effect further up the leg in our knees, hips and lower back.

Prescription insoles or orthotics are custom made devices prescribed by a chartered physiotherapist to correct abnormal alignment and mechanics of the foot and lower limb.

Orthotic devices are commonly used by chartered physiotherapists to help alleviate pain associated with a number of foot and lower limb conditions by helping to redistribute forces acting on the foot and lower limb more evenly.

Orthotics can enhance the mechanical alignment of the leg and are not only used to treat certain foot conditions but are also used in certain cases to treat lower leg, knee, hip and even lower back pain. Our Chartered Physiotherapists will perform a detailed assessment of your feet and lower limb to determine the type of orthotic that is needed for you. Orthotics can be fitted for all ages, and tailored to fit work shoes, walking shoes, runners and sports boots.
